Rilo Kiley, "Break' Up"
This is a wacky Rilo Kiley song. I mean, lyrically it sure it is fitting for this blog. Heck, it's titled "Breakin' Up" but musically it's very Seventies with plenty of Yvonne Elliman-esque oohs and echoes. After multiple listens I'm not sure how I feel about those. Not like the sly and sassy quirky LA rock of Execution. But I do like the twist in the lyrics where she says she "feels good to be free." Kiss. Off. And it's not like I'm wholly against Under the Blacklight. I like much of that record. "Silver Lining" for instance. And that song is appropriate for this blog, too. But how can I ignore a song called "Breakin' Up"?
